IN Brief:
- The company reported €2.5 million raised in a day, with €1 million in an hour.
- Funding is linked to scaling fermentation-derived casein for dairy-format performance.
- The round targets expanded product development across cheese, chocolate, and nutrition.
Those Vegan Cowboys has reported a rapid start to its equity crowdfunding campaign, stating it raised €2.5 million in a single day and reached €1 million within the first hour, setting a platform record.
The company produces animal-free casein using precision fermentation, positioning the ingredient as a functional protein for dairy-format products where melt, stretch, and texture depend on casein performance. Those Vegan Cowboys describes its production system as a “stainless steel cow” — a fermentation-based route intended to supply casein without animal agriculture, using a B2B ingredient model aimed at established manufacturers.
The crowdfunding raise sits alongside a wider financing package, with the additional capital intended to support multiple development tracks in parallel. The team has set out planned work across multiple cheese types, as well as milk chocolate and sports nutrition applications that use casein functionality.
Those Vegan Cowboys also reported that it is working with 10 partners on incorporating its casein into products, naming Westland Kaas and Hochland among those partners. The company said the wider objective is to move from development into scaled supply by working with manufacturing partners, and, where relevant, through licensing arrangements with experienced operators.
The scale-up challenge for precision fermentation dairy proteins remains industrial: building reliable, food-grade fermentation capacity; achieving consistent downstream recovery and purification; and delivering batch-to-batch functional performance that holds across recipes, process conditions, and shelf-life targets. Casein applications are particularly sensitive to functionality drift, where small changes in protein profile can translate into large changes in melt, stretch, and emulsification behaviour.
Those Vegan Cowboys has not published a final close date in its public materials, but campaign documentation indicates participation is available via the company website. The company said the round is intended to broaden its shareholder base while supporting development and manufacturing scale-up.
