IN Brief:
- New BOPET lidding targets condensation control in chilled packaging.
- The film is designed to be sealable, peelable, and microwaveable.
- Compatibility spans PP, HIPS, PET (APET/CPET), PVC, and LDPE trays.
Cosmo Films has launched a transparent anti-fog BOPET (PET) lidding film designed for refrigerated and fresh food packaging, targeting the condensation that can build inside packs during cold-chain storage and retail display. The company has positioned the material as a sealable, peelable structure intended to maintain clarity across temperature swings while delivering reliable seals on high-speed lidding equipment.
Cosmo Films said the film uses a specialised anti-fog coating on the sealable side to prevent condensation droplets forming inside the pack. The company has also highlighted low sealing temperature as a key operating feature, aiming to support compatibility with high-speed packaging lines while reducing the heat input needed to achieve seal performance.
The film is designed to be both sealable and peelable, pairing pack integrity with easy opening for the end user. Cosmo Films has also described the structure as microwaveable, positioning it for ready-to-eat and heat-and-serve product formats where lidding remains in place during reheating.
On pack formats, Cosmo Films said the lidding is compatible with a wide range of tray and container substrates, including PP, HIPS, PET (APET and CPET), PVC, and LDPE. That compatibility is intended to broaden converter and brand owner options across chilled, frozen, and ambient lines, where tray material choices are often driven by barrier needs, rigidity, and the end-of-life route available in the target market.
The company has claimed shelf-life benefits in fresh produce applications, stating the film can enhance shelf life by four to five days for fresh salads and vegetables by helping maintain internal pack conditions. In parallel, it has positioned the film as suitable for a broad set of categories, including prepared fruits, fresh-cut vegetables, ready-to-eat meals, bakery products, dairy lines such as yoghurt and butter, pasta, and chilled meat products.
Kulbhushan Malik, global business head at Cosmo Films, said, “Visibility is directly linked to consumer trust and purchase decisions.” Cosmo Films has framed the product as part of its wider portfolio of speciality films, with the anti-fog lidding positioned alongside performance requirements such as seal strength, optical clarity, and efficiency on automated equipment.
Cosmo Films has also stated that the film is recyclable in mainstream recycling streams when used with PET trays, aligning the lidding choice with mono-material tray strategies that are increasingly used in chilled categories. As tray and lidding combinations continue to be scrutinised for both performance and end-of-life outcomes, anti-fog coatings that maintain clarity without undermining sealing stability are becoming a more contested differentiator in fresh and chilled packaging.
