Yaskawa adds embedded Ethernet to GA501 microdrive

Yaskawa has launched the GA501 industrial AC microdrive with embedded Ethernet, bringing a more compact networked drive option into view for processors and packers modernising line control.

IN Brief:

  • Yaskawa’s GA501 combines dual-port Ethernet and six industrial protocols in a single drive.
  • The platform is aimed at simpler integration, faster installation, and broader IIoT connectivity.
  • Food plants upgrading packaging and process lines gain another compact drive option.

Yaskawa has launched the GA501 industrial AC microdrive with embedded Ethernet, bringing a more compact networked drive option into view for processors and packers modernising conveyor, pump, fan, and auxiliary line control.

The GA501 combines dual-port Ethernet with support for EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus TCP/IP, EtherCAT, BACnet/IP, and MECHATROLINK-4 in a single AC drive. Protocol selection is handled through an onboard DIP switch, allowing the same platform to fit into different network environments without additional communication hardware.

Installation has been set up for quick deployment, with standard DIN rail mounting up to 7.5 HP and spring-tension I/O terminals. The available ratings span 240 VAC single-phase from 1/6 to 5 HP, 240 VAC three-phase from 1/6 to 30 HP, and 480 VAC three-phase from 1/2 to 40 HP, with support for induction, permanent magnet, and synchronous reluctance motors.

For food plants, the appeal is straightforward: fewer network add-ons, cleaner panel design, and an easier route into IIoT-ready architectures where packaging, material handling, and utility systems are increasingly expected to share data as well as power. The drive itself is not food-specific, but its design fits neatly into the next round of plant connectivity work.
