Acomo Food Solutions sales rise 70% despite group decline

Acomo reported strong Food Solutions growth despite lower group revenue. The division benefited from organic sales and Cublend, while disrupted third-party US juice production continued to depress Organic Ingredients.

IN Brief:

  • Acomo recorded Q3 group sales of €352.5 million, a reported decline of 1%.
  • Food Solutions sales rose 70% to €10.8 million, reflecting organic growth and the July acquisition of Cublend.
  • The group expects new in-house US juice processing to become operational in the first quarter of 2027.

Dutch food ingredients group Acomo reported a 70% rise in Food Solutions revenue to €10.8 million during the third quarter of 2026, supported by organic growth and the July acquisition of powder blending specialist Cublend. Group revenue nevertheless declined 1% to €352.5 million, reflecting continued disruption to third-party juice production in its US Organic Ingredients business.

Four of Acomo’s five operating segments recorded higher quarterly sales. The exception was Organic Ingredients, where revenue declined 13% to €129.5 million from €148.1 million a year earlier. Across the group, the fall in reported sales was 2% when adjusted for foreign exchange movements, compared with the headline 1% decline.

Food Solutions sales increased from €6.3 million to €10.8 million. The company attributed the rise to both growth within existing businesses and the inclusion of Cublend, acquired in July. It did not divide the increase between those two sources, so the 70% result cannot be interpreted as 70% organic growth or an equivalent increase in tonnes manufactured.

Cublend supplies customised powder mixes, flavour systems and functional ingredient blends to food producers. Its manufacturing activities include controlled ingredient weighing and blending, supported by in-house product development and automated production arrangements. Acomo acquired the business to add further formulation and processing capabilities to its Food Solutions portfolio rather than simply expand distribution volume.

Powder blending converts multiple ingredient streams into a product that must meet a consistent formulation specification. Manufacturers using premixes rely on correct proportions, suitable mixing and control of unwanted variation between batches. The particular operating procedures depend on the ingredients and intended application; Acomo has not published throughput, installation or quality performance figures for Cublend following the acquisition.

The division’s first nine months of revenue totalled €23.6 million, up 23% from €19.2 million. Since Cublend joined during July, the quarter includes a different ownership and operating perimeter from much of the nine-month period. Year-on-year comparisons therefore need to account for acquisition timing alongside demand from customers already served by the group.

Organic Ingredients faced the opposite conditions. Its revenue fell 13% in the quarter, or 14% at constant currency, because disruptions at a third-party production provider affected Tradin Organic’s US juice business. Acomo said the problems caused lost sales. It also reported that its cocoa activities continued to perform well despite volatility in market prices.

The group is addressing the juice disruption by insourcing processing, with a new US facility expected to become operational during the first quarter of 2027. The decision had already been disclosed in Acomo’s July half-year results; the October statement confirms the continuing commercial effect and the planned start-up period rather than announcing the investment for the first time.

Bringing a process in-house changes responsibility for equipment operation, production scheduling and quality management. It may reduce dependence on an external production provider, but it also transfers operational requirements to the company making the investment. Acomo has not disclosed the new facility’s capacity, precise location, capital cost or expected savings in the Q3 trading update.

Food ingredient supply arrangements can be affected by interruptions at relatively concentrated processing stages. A company may have access to raw materials and customer demand yet still lose sales if the intermediate processing needed to meet product specifications becomes unavailable. The results indicate that Acomo’s juice activities experienced such a constraint, without detailing the cause of the supplier’s disruption.

Elsewhere, Spices and Nuts revenue increased 5% to €133.2 million, supported by modest organic growth and the contribution of Manuzzi, acquired in November 2025. The business handles products used by food manufacturers and ingredient distributors, where preparation, grading and supply specifications differ across applications. The company has not provided new factory capacity figures associated with the latest sales improvement.

Edible Seeds revenue rose 2% to €50.3 million as its US operations recovered. Acomo referred to stronger SunButter production after operational disruptions that began during 2025 and continued partly into the first quarter of 2026. The segment remained 5% below the previous year’s revenue over the first nine months, indicating that the quarterly improvement had not eliminated the cumulative decline.

Tea revenue rose 5% to €30.5 million, while Acomo continued its transition to a centralised commercial model. That development concerns how the business organises its selling operations; the announcement does not establish a new tea processing line or completed factory investment. Across all five segments, nine-month group sales stood at €1.063 billion, down 5% on the year-earlier period.

The combined figures show markedly different performance across ingredient activities. Powder blending and specialist formulations supported growth in Food Solutions, while interruptions in externally processed juice reduced sales in Organic Ingredients. Those movements affected the overall result even as Spices and Nuts, Edible Seeds and Tea recorded quarterly gains.

Acomo continues to pursue growth through acquired operations and investment in its processing network. The next disclosed production milestone is the expected first-quarter 2027 start-up of the US juice facility. Successful commissioning and a subsequent recovery in customer deliveries remain prospective outcomes, not results established by the October trading figures.
