IN Brief:
- AnalytiChem has launched Redipor Legionella agar plates covering recovery, isolation, and confirmation steps for ISO 11731-aligned culture testing.
- The range includes BCYE, GVPC, MWY, and cysteine-free media intended to support enumeration and regulatory reporting.
- The launch extends water hygiene and environmental monitoring capability relevant to food and beverage sites managing utilities and site services.
AnalytiChem has expanded its Redipor® prepared media portfolio with a Legionella agar plate range designed to support ISO 11731-aligned culture workflows for water testing, a launch with relevance well beyond environmental and public-health laboratories.
In food and beverage processing, Legionella control sits alongside broader water hygiene management across utilities, washdown systems, cooling assets, and site services. Culture remains the reference method for detection and enumeration, and ISO 11731 specifies culture methods for isolating Legionella and estimating numbers in water samples and related matrices, including industrial waters, biofilms, and sediments.
The new Redipor® range is built around the full sequence of that workflow. AnalytiChem says the line includes non-selective BCYE agar for recovery, selective GVPC and MWY media for isolation, and cysteine-free options to support confirmation through cysteine dependency. The company positions the plates as ready-to-use media intended to simplify routine testing and reduce variability across parallel plating steps required by the standard.
That matters where laboratories are handling mixed environmental samples rather than clean matrices. ISO 11731 covers potable, industrial, waste, and natural waters, while Legionella investigations in factory settings can also involve more challenging material from biofilms, cooling tower sludge, or other contaminated system points. A prepared media range spanning recovery, selectivity, and confirmation is therefore aimed at the practical bottlenecks in getting from sample receipt to reportable colony-forming unit counts.
AnalytiChem says the wider Redipor® platform already serves regulated sectors including food and beverage, environmental testing, healthcare, and pharmaceuticals, with manufacturing across the group supported by quality accreditations including ISO 17034, ISO 17025, and ISO 9001. The launch also extends a prepared media brand that the company has been building out across plates, bottles, tubes, and vials for microbiology workflows.
The immediate application is water safety, but in food production the significance is broader: contamination control increasingly depends on proving the condition of utilities and environmental systems, not only the product zone itself.
